Last chance to grab a slice of golfing history at Hamilton Grand

1.14pm 26th October 2022 - Property

Golfers have a final chance to own a part of golf’s most coveted address after it was revealed that only one of the 27 apartments at Hamilton Grand, the 18th century six-storey building that overlooks the and first tee and the 18th green of the Old Course at St Andrews, remains unsold.

The last remaining apartment is number 26, located on the fifth floor, which boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms, an open-plan living kitchen/dining area, as well as a Juliet balcony, and enjoys views overlooking St Andrews, although not the Old Course. It has a price tag of £2,829,000.

Sales agents Savills has reported a flurry of sales before and after The 150th Open Championship was held in the town last summer, with eight of the nine remaining apartments at the property on Golf Place being snapped up during that period.

The late Herbert Kohler, an American who bought both Hamilton Hall in 2009, and in 2005 the five-star Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa, passed away this year before seeing the final unit of his personal passion project sell.

With its distinctive bell-shaped dome, the iconic red sandstone Hamilton Grand is the second most photographed building in the world of golf as it provides the backdrop to many significant championships, and is one of the most famous landmarks in St Andrews.

Jamie Macnab, Head of Edinburgh Country Houses at Savills, commented: Overseas buyers are currently boosted by the weak pound and looking for super-prime deals, and at Hamilton Grand, we’ve seen strong demand in the last 18 months, with a third of the residences selling. Significantly post-Covid, the market saw an uptick in international buyers, with five of the homes going to Americans and two to British buyers. Herbert Kohler really set a new benchmark for real estate in not just St Andrews or Fife, but all of Scotland, in terms of quality and pricing, and contributed to making the seaside town the undisputed mecca of golf.”

Residents of Hamilton Grand enjoy many five-star services, including a 24-hour butler, sixth floor roof top deck access, complimentary membership to the Kohler Waters Spa, and other dining and golfing privileges such as The Duke’s championship course.
