Scott Gourlay Golf Technology opens first fitting centre in England

4.57pm 7th December 2023 - Practice Range & Teaching

Scott Gourlay Golf Technology is opening the doors to its second UK fitting centre, and the first in England, at South Chesterfield Golf Club in Derbyshire.

The Tour Performance Fitting Centre in Chesterfield will house two state-of-the-art fitting studios where golfers can be custom fitted for any brand with any shaft and see their flight with premium Titleist Pro V1 balls hit outside using Trackman.

SGGT’s unique fitting system and independent approach enables their experienced fitters to select the optimum combination of shaft and head from any brand in the market. Each driver, wood, iron and wedge manufacturer is represented in right and left hand options for Callaway, Cobra, Mizuno, Muira, Ping, Srixon/Cleveland, TaylorMade and Titleist.

The Hogan Iron studio at SGGT takes iron custom fitting to the next level. Each golfer is fitted using 4, 6, 8 and Pitching Wedge to ensure the correct through the bag fitting of long irons, mid-irons and short irons. This avoids consistency issues that arise when fitting using a single iron and enables SGGT to accurately blend sets across models and brands to create the optimum iron set.

SGGT wedge fitting determines the right bounce and grind for the golfer’s most used wedge. Then gap fitting takes place using Trackman to ensure the correct distance gaps between the wedges and the start of the iron set.

All custom orders are built in-house and dispatched from SGGT’s workshop at its Scottish fitting centre in Edinburgh for a complete in-house service for better quality control. The workshop has Scotland’s only SST Pure machine for shaft alignment and every club is swing weighted and then loft and lie checked so that it is built to the highest standards.

Founder Scott Gourlay is delighted to see his vision for Tour fitting expand into England. He said: “Following the success of our approach in Scotland we are delighted to be expanding into England to be closer to customers there, many of whom already come north to see us. With over 10 million households within an hour’s drive, this purpose-built location at South Chesterfield Golf Club puts us within easy reach of the majority of golfers in England.”

Heading up the SGGT England fitting centre will be Laurence Pawley who has 15 years’ experience of custom fitting with major brands such as BGL and PXG.

“I am delighted to be leading SGGT in England as their independent approach enables me to choose from any head and over 600 golf shafts across all the brands in the market. I believe in making the golf club function according to what the golfer can do and what their needs are. Building the clubs in-house means we can offer tour level build quality so that club function is personalised to maximise individual performance.”

Custom fitting appointments at SGGT England are now available to book online at www.sggt.co.uk.
