Dartmouth resort appoints new head of coaching

9.48am 19th March 2024 - Practice Range & Teaching

PGA Professional Stuart Barrett has joined The Dartmouth Hotel, Golf & Spa this month to lead its expanding coaching team.

This appointment comes on the back of an announcement by the golf resort at the end of last year outlining the development of a new practice range on six acres of land adjacent to the fifth and sixth holes on the Dartmouth Course, which is planned to open in June.

Devon-born Barrett is already well known by Dartmouth’s members, as he previously worked at the resort for seven years and is still the current course record holder. During this time, he became a PGA Professional on the West Region PGA circuit, and frequently represented his county in tournaments.

Twelve years at Devon’s Wrangaton Golf Club followed in the role of head professional and director of golf, before a move to Bovey Tracey Golf Club. He now joins The Dartmouth Hotel, Golf & Spa to provide expert golf tuition to members and non-members two days per week, and to develop both the resorts coaching offering and his own business.

“I am excited to have the opportunity to not only work at the Dartmouth Golf Club once again, but to also be a part of developing the resort’s training and coaching services.” said Barrett. “The addition of a new practice range to the excellent courses later this year will bring new opportunities for golfers of all abilities to perfect their game; something my coaching will support.

‘I work with a golfer to understand their individual needs; their strengths, weaknesses, and ambitions, and then create a bespoke coaching plan to help. I totally believe anyone, regardless of age or athletic ability can learn to play golf. And I am here to help them achieve this and enjoy playing the game as much as I do.”

The Dartmouth Hotel, Golf and Spa general manager Ian Davies said of the appointment: “Stuart is one of the most highly regarded PGA pros in the region. His experience, knowledge, and passion for teaching the game make him stand out.  And we are delighted to welcome him back to the club at such an important time, as we invest in creating a wider range of facilities for our golfers.“
