Titleist appoints new gear category manager

5.14pm 7th November 2023 - People

Titleist has appointed PGA Professional and experienced golf retailer Peter Stanford as its new Gear Category Manager in the UK.

Stanford, who has a degree in marketing and has worked at Buckingham Golf Club and latterly at Royal Mid-Surrey, where he managed Matthew Paget’s business operations across his six stores in Surrey and Kent, is excited at the opportunity to take the category to new heights.

“I am a huge Titleist brand fan and passionate about the products,” he said. “Working for Titleist has always been something I aspired to, and I feel like I can bring a lot to the gear category.

“I understand golf retail from the perspective of a golf professional, how pro shops and golf clubs operate and what the golfer wants. I think the experience of being on the other side of the counter will be invaluable in my new position.”

“We are really excited that Peter has joined Team Titleist,” said Titleist Brand Director Michael Creighton. “He brings with him a wealth of experience from the golf industry, as a PGA professional, with a marketing degree and most recently managing a multi-channel retail business.

“His experience of the dedicated golfer, passion for product and knowledge of the industry are great attributes that will allow Peter to continue the fantastic growth we have seen in our Titleist gear business.”

The gear category – where Titleist is a market leader in golf bags and headwear – has continued to see impressive growth over the past few years. According to the latest on- and off-course sell through data from Golf Datatech, Titleist golf bags have an 18% market share for 2023 year to date. For the same period Titleist headwear has just under 19% of the market with the nearest competitor at 8%.
