La Manga Club’s new director of golf Gary Silcock is well-known for delivering all-round excellence in the golf resort sector and is determined to continue his impressive record at Europe’s premier sports and leisure destination.

Silcock took up his new role at La Manga Club at the start of the year and is relishing the chance to help the five-star resort match the standards that he has helped set in his previous roles, most recently at The Belfry.

Under the Scot’s leadership, the four-time Ryder Cup venue led the way at the prestigious PGA-endorsed 59Club Awards by winning no fewer than four prizes and he is now hoping to extend his winning sequence into Europe.

As well as being named ‘Golf Operations Team of the Year’ for the second year running and scooping the award for ‘Leading Individual Performance by a Golf Operations Team’, The Belfry also beat the likes of The Duke’s St Andrews to receive one of the 59Club’s prized Gold Flag awards before claiming the event’s top prize for ‘Best Venue – Ultimate Golf Experience.’

Silcock said: “To be recognised as the leading golf operations team and best venue in any award category is a great honour. I enjoyed considerable success in my time at The Belfry and believe I can replicate those achievements at La Manga Club.

“It is a venue with a rich history and outstanding potential, and the team and I are already working very hard to deliver the ultimate in customer service on and off the course to our members and guests.”

59club is a unique Benchmarking Company focusing on ‘Member Surveys’ and ‘Mystery Shopper’ audits within the Golf, Leisure & Events industries. Endorsed by The PGA, 59club works with Golf & Leisure Clubs across the country to help develop, improve and maintain a high level of customer service, in turn increasing customer satisfaction, revenue and profits in the process.

Silcock’s appointment comes at an exciting time for La Manga Club with the five-star venue having celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2012, and he faces a busy time in his new role over the coming months.

Fresh from hosting the prestigious Spanish International Amateur Championship and Ladies Golf Cup, La Manga Club will stage the Ecco Tour’s Nordic League Winter Series for a fourth time from March 12-22, while it is also scheduled to host the Swedish PGA and the 17th edition of the popular Addison Lee Footballers’ Classic later this spring.

La Manga Club boasts unrivalled facilities as a sports and leisure destination including three 18-hole championship golf courses, a 28-court tennis centre and a 2,000sqm spa and fitness centre. It also offers the choice of a five-star hotel, four-star serviced apartments and townhouses, more than 20 bars and restaurants and provides a rewarding holiday experience for adults and children alike.
