Braemar Appointment at Muscat Hills

Braemar Golf, St Andrews, have recently put in place a highly qualified and experience golf industry professional at Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club, Oman (MHGCC). The role’s primary focus will be to spearhead the marketing of the golf club and to seek sponsorship opportunities for a major professional event for the Sultanate.

John Cockayne, a golf professional for over 30 years, has joined Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club on a secondment basis to deliver high end strategic marketing and communications services to the golf club. His experience is extensive in the key areas of the marketing, sales and the event requirements that have been identified as the immediate ‘needs’ at Muscat Hills.

“We are delighted that John has joined our team for one year to aid in our marketing processes” said HH Rawy Al Said the CEO of Muscat Golf Course Project. the owners of MHGCC. “Our team has achieved so much in developing the course and improving the operations, it is now time for us to actively promote the club and the game of golf” he added.

John has worked on a variety of projects in Europe, Africa and the UK and will bring a unique skill set to bear at Muscat Hills to ensure that the development has an established marketing and sales platform. This platform will be on a strategic level through the relationships that will be brokered with the local and broader business community in Oman, local hotels, travel operators, travel agents, airlines and other key businesses.

One of John’s other key deliverables is to recruit, train and develop a PR Executive for Muscat Hills. The appointee will be skilled in order to be able to deliver the specific details and elements of the sales and marketing programme.

This training will also provide the PR Executive with the tools be able to nurture and maintain the ‘legacy value’ of the strategic relationships established which will be key to the long term success of any of the initiatives that will be put in place.

Commenting on his appointment John said “I am delighted to be in Oman on this Braemar Golf assignment. Muscat Hills has great potential and I am keen for this potential to be fully realised. I am also excited about the opportunity of creating interest in a professional event for the Sultanate of Oman.

Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club is Oman’s first 18 hole championship golf course. Designed by Paul Thomas and opened in 2009 the stunning golf course has been crafted through rocky terrain and has numerous dramatic wadis (dry river beds) running through it.

The wadis give the golf course two challenging par 3 holes which are played directly across them. The course is generous off the tee with wide lush fairways and with a choice of 5 teeing grounds per hole the course sets up for all standard of golfer.

Located just 10 minutes from Oman’s International Airport and in the new business district of Seeb, Muscat Hills Golf and Country Club is ideally positionedto look after the inbound tourist and international and local corporate markets.
