Burhill Golf and Leisure Ltd (BGL) are delighted with the news that three of their greenkeeping staff have been nominated for the prestigious Toro Student Greenkeeper of the Year Award 2016.
Emily Gammon, Andy Morgan, and Ross Butler, all qualified apprentice greenkeepers at BGL venues, have been selected to attend their respective regional finals for the award with the potential to win an all-expenses paid trip to the USA.
The winner of the award will receive a six-week residential scholarship to the University of Massachusetts to attend the winter turf school, they will also make a visit to the Golf Industry Show in Orlando, and the Toro headquarters in Minneapolis.
Runners-up will receive an expenses paid trip to the BIGGA Turf Management Exhibition in Harrogate in January 2017, where they
will attend educational workshops and see the latest in products and innovations within the industry.
Emily Gammon, apprentice greenkeeper at The Shropshire Golf Centre, will be representing the South Staffordshire College where she is currently undertaking her qualifications. Andy Morgan, who is part of the greenkeeping team at Birchwood Golf and Country Club, will be representing Hadlow College in Kent, and Ross Butler who is based at Abbey Hill Golf Centre, will be representing Hertfordshire based Oaklands College.
“It’s an honour to have been nominated for such a prestigious award,” commented Emily, “the opportunity to study over in America and visit the headquarters is a once in a lifetime chance to learn skills on an international scale; it’s all very exciting.”
BGL support greenkeeping apprenticeships across all of their 22 courses in the UK, and are delighted with the announcement of Emily, Andy, and Ross’s nominations.
