Callaway unveils Epic range of drivers and fairway woods

9.36am 15th January 2021 - New Products

Callaway Golf’s new range Epic drivers and fairways woods feature new technologies that are designed to deliver fast ball speeds for every type of player.

The new Epic driver offered in three models – Speed, Max and Max LS. All feature a new Jailbreak frame which stabilises the face both vertically and horizontally for more consistent performance across a wider area of the face.

The Epic Speed replaces the Epic Flash and is designed to promote faster ball speeds across a wider area of the face courtesy of the combination of a new AI-designed Jailbreak frame and a new Flash Face. Other advancements include a more aerodynamic head shape, including a flatter crown, which reduces drag for faster swing speeds. The crown and toe areas are made from a triaxial carbon composite is lighter than titanium and allows 16g of weight savings to be moved to other parts of the head to increase MOI and forgiveness. An additional Triaxial carbon patch on the toe adds draw bias enhance shot-shaping capabilities.

The Epic Max driver is designed for players who want to hit the ball long and straight, with technologies built in to achieve maximum ball speed and maximum forgiveness. Also boasting the AI-designed Jailbreak Speed Frame and remodelled Flash Face, the crown design displaces 19g of weight to the rear of the clubhead to promote higher launch and more forgiveness, with a slight draw bias to deliver tighter dispersion and straighter drives. It also features a 17g sliding rear weight which allows player to alter shot shape correction of up to 20 yards.

The Epic Max LS replaces the Epic Flash Sub Zero and is aimed at mid- to-low handicappers who want more speed, a neutral ball flight and forgiveness in a lower spin, high MOI package. Boasting the same frame and face technologies as the other two models, the crown design displaces 13g of weight to encourage a fade-biased shot shape, and also features a sliding rear weight which offers up to 13 yards of shot shape correction.

The Speed and Max drivers come with a choice of Project X and Mitsubishi MMT 45.75-inch shafts, with adjustable lofts of 9°, 10.5° and 12°, while the Max LS is offered in 9° and 10.5°, with adjustable lofts. Five areas on the crown and sole can be customised with a choice of 12 of colour options for added personalisation. All three models have an RRP of £499 and will be at retail from February 18.

Epic Fairway Woods

Two new fairway wood models are available – Epic Speed and Epic MAX, and their exceptional ball speeds start with the new Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Blades. Callaway used A.I. to design a completely new Jailbreak system which spreads and angles the Jailbreak blades. Along with stiffening the body, the new design allows the forged face cup to flex efficiently, which puts an even greater emphasis on centre and off-centre ball speeds.

In Epic Speed, high ball speeds and forgiveness come from the high strength C300 Maraging Steel. It provides outstanding strength and flexibility while the Face Cup provides speed and spin consistency across the face. The forward Centre of Gravity is combined with a new leading-edge to promote a strong ball flight, spin robustness and consistent shot shape dispersion.

Epic MAX delivers enhanced forgiveness from an oversized head shape which combines with a shallow face to make these fairways extremely easy to launch. The launch and spin are tuneable using 2g & 14g weights. Golfers can use the heavy weight in the rear for more forgiveness or use the heavy weight in the front for lower launch and spin.

Epic Speed is available in 3+, 3-, 4-, 5-, and 7-wood lofts. Epic MAX is available in 3+, 3-, 5-, Heavenwood, 7-, 9-, and 11-wood lofts. Both have RRPs of £299.
