‘Golf Monthly’ announce key commercial and editorial appointments

Golf Monthly today announces the appointment of Matthew Johnston as the brand’s head of commercial operations.

Johnston replaces Andrew Boxer as IPC Media’s ‘Head of Sport’ and assumes control of Golf Monthly and IPC’s two other iconic sport brands, World Soccer and Rugby World.

On the editorial team senior staff writer, Paul O’Hagan, is promoted to the role of the Technical Editor.

Johnston joined IPC Media in the late 1990s as a Golf Monthly sales executive before moving into creative media solutions where he headed up activity across all IPC sport and leisure titles. He has extensive experience of the wider media landscape through his work delivering solutions across IPC market-leading brands including Country Life, Horse & Hound and The Field.

Golf Monthly editor Mike Harris said: “I am delighted Matt has been appointed to the role. We have worked closely together on many Golf Monthly projects for 10 years and he knows both our brand and the golf industry very well.

The expertise and insight Matt has gained delivering content-based solutions for clients across multiple platforms will ensure we remain at the forefront of providing an innovative media mix to our partners.”

Commenting on his appointment, Matthew Johnston said: “I am really looking forward to working with the IPC sports brands and the sports industry again. The Golf Monthly team is incredibly passionate about producing the best golf-related content possible for consumers and the most innovative and effective campaigns for our advertising partners and I’m thrilled to be a part of that.”

Paul O’Hagan’s promotion to the position of Technical Editor is also with immediate effect. Paul joined IPC Media in 2006 having impressed while on a work experience placement in 2005 and now leads the production of Golf Monthly’s equipment and product content across the brand’s print and digital platforms.

“Paul has grown his role over the years and is now regarded as the UK’s leading equipment expert and the content he produces is highly respected by both our audience and the golf industry,” said Mike Harris.

“Paul is key member of the editorial team and this promotion acknowledgment of the hard work and innovation, most notably in the field of video, that he contributes to the brand.”
