Dan Owen will be editing Golf News’s equipment content

Golf News, the UK’s most widely read golfing newspaper, is delighted to announce the appointment of experienced golf journalist Dan Owen to the role of equipment editor.

Owen, 37, has over 15 years’ experience in the golfing media, having been a member of the launch team for Golf Punk, where he covered equipment for the magazine’s print and digital output, and latterly as editor of respected golf trade magazine Golf Retailing, which he joined in November 2017.

Owen will continue in his role at Golf Retailing while contributing to Golf News. His first published reviews, new and views will appear in the March issue, which comes out on March 11.

Speaking about his new role, 11-handicapper Owen said: “As a keen golfer I’ve always read Golf News, and it’s great to now get the opportunity to contribute to its continued success. I’m very passionate about golf, and the golf industry in general, and having worked for both consumer and trade golf titles, I have a detailed background in equipment, so I’m looking forward to passing on my knowledge to Golf News readers, and hopefully help increase their enjoyment of this great game.”

Owen, who is based in Brighton, will be working alongside Golf News’ long-standing editor, Nick Bayly, who will focus on the club news, features and the travel section of the title.

Bayly said: “It’s great to have a journalist of Dan’s experience and quality join the team at Golf News. There’s no-one in the golf media who is more knowledgeable than Dan when it comes to all matters equipment, and he will be a great asset to Golf News. He’s also a pretty decent golfer, so I’m going to have to raise my game if I’m to keep up with him on the golf course!”

Golf News celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, having been founded by publisher Matt Nicholson in 1994, and the popular tabloid-sized publication, which is printed on high quality paper, continues to invest in both its print and digital formats.

“Twenty-five years feels like a pretty significant milestone,” said Nicholson. “Publishing, in all its forms, remains a challenging environment, and not just in the golfing sector, but we know from speaking to our readers and our advertisers that Golf News is a publication that people actively seek out and enjoy reading. While print will always be our main focus, more and more of our readers are engaging with our content through other platforms, be it through the digital edition, our website, or through our Twitter feed, @golfnewsmag.”

He added: “Golf News’s USP has always been that it is available in the places where keen golfers congregate – golf clubs and driving ranges – and that continues to be our focus – but we’re also wise to the fact that some people are more digitally engaged, and that’s why we will continue to develop all areas of our media platforms.”
