German club managers affiliate with CMAE

The Club Managers Association of Europe (CMAE) has announced that club managers in Germany are set to benefit from an affiliation agreement that will enable them to take the internationally recognised Certified Club Manager (CCM) qualification.

More than 430 members of the Golf Management Verband Deutschland will now have access to the new professional benchmark, already accepted as an industry standard across much of Europe, plus America.

“Golf Management Verband Deutschland is one of the most established and influential club manager associations in Europe,” said CMAE chief executive officer, Jerry Kilby. “For many years it has offered its members excellent professional training and development, so it is a significant step for the CMAE to welcome the GMVD as our affiliate partner in Germany, Austria and Switzerland.”

The agreement follows similar moves by 11 other European organisations, including golf club manager associations in Sweden, Ireland, Spain and Portugal, making the CCM qualification available to more than 3,000 club managers in 18 countries.

“We recognise that our members work in an international market and that for them to be able to demonstrate they are the best in the business and develop their careers both in Germany and globally, an internationally recognised qualification such as the CCM is essential,” said Matthias Nicolaus, president of Golf Management Verband Deutschland and himself the manager of Golf Club Hösel, Dà¼sseldorf. “We welcome affiliation with the CMAE. It offers a perfect link to our members between the just established CCM programme for the German speaking countries and the international recognised programme.”

The Certified Club Manager qualification is open to suitably experienced managers and involves a two-day review and examination focusing on key club management disciplines. While the first candidates will take the exam on 15 and 16 October, 2008, in London managers will in time be able to take the qualification in their home countries.

There are approximately 10,000 clubs with professional managers in Europe, half of which are golf clubs, the remainder being sports, leisure, health and fitness clubs, plus city and dining clubs.
