Winter is coming and the days are getting shorter. But thanks to the Golf Express initiative in Staffordshire the golfing season is being extended.
Golf Express promotes 9-hole golf – all the game in half the time – and, although the days are drawing in and temperatures dropping, golfers don’t have to hibernate.
Eighteen golf clubs across Staffordshire are offering 9-hole green fees, providing opportunities for golfers to keep playing during shorter daylight hours and enjoying the health and well-being benefits of the game.
Gareth Shaw, Staffordshire County Development Officer, said: “People tend to play less golf in the winter – but we’re confident this won’t be the case in Staffordshire. Golfers in the county can reap the health and well-being benefits of winter golf. It’s the perfect tonic for beating the winter blues and boosting energy.
“Wrapping up warm and getting out in the fresh air for a game of winter golf can be really invigorating and good for your health,” he adds.
Golf Express is part of an England Golf project which is trialling innovative ways of increasing participation and golf club memberships.
It has attracted hundreds of players and widespread media interest since it was launched earlier this year, promoting 9-hole greens fees and after work roll-ups to meet the needs of people with busy lifestyles.
Golf Clubs offering Golf Express winter offers are: Barlaston, Branston, Cannock Park, Druids Heath, Izaak Walton, Kingswinford, Lichfield (The Spire Course), Mark Butler Golf Academy, Onneley, Oxley Park, Perton Park, Lakeside, Stafford Castle, Stone, 3 Hammers, Trentham Park, Uttoxeter and Westwood.
