Scottish Golf launches national handicap order of merit

9.52am 16th June 2022 - Innovation Centre

Scottish Golf has unveiled a new National Handicap Order of Merit that will allow golfers to see where they rank alongside their peers.

Within the Scottish Golf App, which is used by more than 200,000 golfers, this new functionality will allow golfers to quickly see not only where they rank at their club, but nationally overall. The results can also be filtered by gender. This can be viewed in the ‘My Handicap’ section of the App under the ‘My Handicap Ranking’ tab and when logged in through the Scottish Golf website.

As well as golfers being able to see where they rank, a full list of handicaps from across the country, filterable by region and club, will now be accessible on the Scottish Golf website. By accessing this list, golfers and club officials will be able to view the handicap indices of the 175,000 affiliated golfers with an index in Scotland.

Speaking about the launch of the new National Handicap Order of Merit, Scottish Golf Head of VMS, Dave Kernohan said: ‘Through speaking to golfers and club officials, it became clear to us that a National Handicap Order of Merit is something that would be a valuable addition to our offering.

“Now, golfers will have the ability to benchmark themselves, and measure their progress against other golfers around the country. It will now be possible to instantly see this ranking at their club and nationally through the App or when logged in to the Scottish Golf website. This will allow them to chart their ranking journey as their handicap index changes.

“With the addition of the full list of handicap indices available on the website, it will now also be possible to look up the handicap index of any golfer who is affiliated to Scottish Golf on the website. From the feedback we have received, we believe this will add value, and prove useful to both individual golfers and our affiliated clubs.”
