Norfolk Ladies hit the mark with national golf accreditation for safeguarding

8.55am 20th November 2020 - Growing the Game

Norfolk Ladies’ County Golf Association (NLCGA) is backing the drive to grow the game and has achieved the SafeGolf accreditation from England Golf demonstrating its commitment to safeguarding children and young people, as well as adults at risk in the sport of golf.

For over one hundred years the NLCGA has been looking after the interests of lady and girl golfers in Norfolk across 30 clubs affiliated to England Golf.

This includes encouraging new players, developing promising golfers and organising county competitions for players of all abilities. As a result of this, Norfolk has a thriving girls’ section which has produced top class golfers over a good number of years and a women’s county team that has reached the England Golf Women’s County Finals in 2016, 2018 and 2019.

County Hon Secretary, Margo Horsburgh said: “The Association was delighted to receive the accreditation which showed its commitment to providing safe golf for everyone.”

SafeGolf is a partnership of UK golf bodies committed to promoting a safe and positive environment for all those participating, working and volunteering in the sport of golf.

The SafeGolf partnership consists of members from the golfing bodies across Great Britain & Ireland and has been established to help golf respond to the issue of child protection in sport.  Its mission is to safeguard the welfare of children and young people, as well as adults at risk, in the sport of golf.

SafeGolf is firstly, a website – – through which anyone with a concern about the welfare of a player, or the behaviour or practice of a coach, volunteer, organiser, parent or a player, can contact the lead safeguarding officer of their national governing body.

Secondly, it is the safeguarding standard England Golf will promote to all their affiliated clubs and counties to ensure everyone provides a safe and positive experience to children and young people whilst playing golf.  The PGA is also using the standards to apply to all their PGA Professional Coaches.

Due to the restrictions in place because of COVID-19 it has not been possible to present the certificate, however, it is hoped that this can be done in the not too distant future.
