Muckhart Golf Club to host Junior GolfSixes Final ahead of Solheim Cup

11.01am 28th August 2019 - Growing the Game

Scottish Golf is delighted to confirm that Muckhart Golf Club will play host to this year’s Scottish Golf GolfSixes League Final following support from The 2019 Solheim Cup Development Group.

The event will take place at the Perthshire golf club on Sunday 8 September, kickstarting a week of golf celebrations in the region as Gleneagles prepares to welcome The 2019 Solheim Cup from Friday 13 September to Sunday 15 September.

Similar to the team element of The Solheim Cup, youngsters have been enjoying the team-based GolfSixes Leagues up and down the country this summer. Run in partnership with the Golf Foundation, next month’s Final will see the top-16 teams from across Scotland descend on Muckhart Golf Club for a day of competition and fun challenges.

The announcement comes following additional support from The 2019 Solheim Cup Development Group which will also enable Scottish Golf to increase the number of clubs engaging in GolfSixes Leagues from 67 to 100 in 2020.

Commenting on the announcement, Scottish Golf’s Junior Development Manager, Gavin Forrester said, “We are delighted to announce Muckhart as hosts of our first ever GolfSixes League Final. The leagues have supported children across the country to become competitive golfers by taking part in the game’s shorter-format competition and it is great to take the Final to Perthshire ahead of The 2019 Solheim Cup. We would like to thank the team at Muckhart Golf Club for their support in hosting this year’s event.

“Additionally, we would like to thank The 2019 Solheim Cup Development Group and The Golf Foundation for their support of GolfSixes in Scotland. This support will allow us to expand the programme which has been a huge success and will continue to support our aims in increasing the number of young people playing the game.”

Paul Bush, Director of Events at VisitScotland, said: “One of the key objectives of The 2019 Solheim Cup is to support innovative initiatives designed to engage more young people in golf – and the Scottish Golf GolfSixes League has certainly delivered that. I’m delighted that so many clubs have engaged in the league and the support of The 2019 Solheim Cup Golf Development Group will allow that number to grow in the coming years. Having the final at Muckhart Golf Club, just a few miles from where The 2019 Solheim Cup will be taking place is fantastic and I wish all the competitors all the best on the day. I hope they also make it along to Gleneagles to watch the world-class golf taking place and are further inspired to continue their own golfing journeys.”

On hosting the first ever Scottish GolfSixes League Final, Chris Tulrik, Captain of Muckhart Golf Club added, “On behalf of the members at Muckhart Golf Club, we are proud to have been selected as the host venue for the inaugural GolfSixes Scottish Final and very much look forward to welcoming juniors from around Scotland to our club. I congratulate all teams on reaching the Final and wish them the best of luck on the day.

“We implemented GolfSixes at Muckhart Golf Club this season and it has been very well received by the juniors involved as well as our volunteer coaches who are using the format as a guideline for coaching sessions. The concept enables pre-handicap juniors to experience golf on the course in a competitive but relaxed and friendly environment.”

Tickets are still available for The 2019 Solheim Cup at Gleneagles, with children under 16 able to attend free of charge. Visit www.solheimcup2019.com for more information.
