England Golf to support Sport England health campaign

1.27pm 30th August 2019 - Growing the Game

England Golf has announced its full support for Sport England’s new ‘We Are Undefeatable’ campaign, which has been launched to help people in England living with long-term health conditions to remain active.

The new campaign was launched to support the one-in-four (15 million) people currently living in England with diabetes, cancer, arthritis, Parkinson’s and other long-term health conditions. That figure is set to rise to 18 million by 2025.

For the first time 15 leading charities have come together with the support of Sport England and the National Lottery to launch the ‘We are Undefeatable’ campaign to help people living with health conditions to get active in a way that’s right for them.

The decision to collaborate was taken after research showed that while 69% of people living with long-term conditions would like to be more active, this group were more than twice as likely to be inactive. The research also showed that 66% of those adults suffering from long-term conditions believed being active would help manage their conditions, although a further 24% feared that physical activity would exacerbate their health issues and two-in-five (44%) wanted more help and advice on how to be more active.

“We are delighted to offer our full support to Sport England’s new ‘We Are Undefeatable’ campaign and believe it will help people with long-term health conditions to find the best way to remain active without compromising their health in any way,” said England Golf chief executive, Nick Pink. “Golf has considerable evidence to show that the game is good for long-term health and I am sure it could be of benefit for many of the people targeted by this new campaign.”

The charities who have come together to support the campaign include Age UK, Alzheimer’s Society, Asthma UK, Breast Cancer Care and Breast Cancer Now, British Lung Foundation, British Red Cross, Diabetes UK, McMillan Cancer Support, Mind, MS Society, Parkinson’s UK, Rethink Mental Illness, Royal Voluntary Service, Stroke Association and Versus Arthritis.
