The education sessions being presented by the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA) at this year’s SALTEX (Sports, Amenities, Landscaping Trade Exhibition) will complement the myriad of golf course maintenance products on view to create an event that will appeal to greenkeepers at courses of every size and type.
Being staged on Wednesday September 3 at Windsor Racecourse, the free-to-attend seminars will focus on integrated turf management and the benefits of social media, as well as present an interesting insight into the impact that the Wimbledon tennis Championships has on a neighbouring golf course.
The schedule starts with David Langheim MG, course manager at Wimbledon Park Golf Club. His ‘Wimbledon fortnight: before, during and after’ session will highlight how the club is each year affected by the Wimbledon tournament.
Presenting first-hand experiences and photographic evidence of how events unfold, David will outline the impact on the course and how it is repaired.
Daniel Lightfoot MG, course manager at Bearwood Lakes Golf Club and Matthew Nutter, course manager at East Berkshire Golf Club, will then take to the stage to present an interesting look into the use of social media. Attendees at their ‘#socialsaltex’ seminar will discover whether social media make the grass grow better.
The BIGGA programme completes with the presentation ‘Integrated Turf Management in Action’ by Everris technical sales manager – turf and amenity, Henry Bechelet. Henry proposes to show the real benefits of taking an integrated approach to turf management.
“If we combine treatments properly and build fully integrated maintenance programmes, then we can produce surfaces that perform better and with lower inputs,” he says.
Henry will use the latest research and field trial data to show the benefits of thinking holistically and using objective measurement tools to guide decision-making.
“Modern turf maintenance will progress through understanding,” he promises.
