The greenkeeping team at Buxton’s Cavendish Golf Club has reported thriving greens and an increase in machine reliability following the arrival of a new Toro fleet.

The boost coincided with the club’s annual Open week and follows a recent milestone that saw Cavendish celebrate its 90th anniversary just last year.

Director of greens, Colin Theedom, who’s been in the role for nearly two years now, explains why the investment came about: “The investment in Toro was needed so that our greens staff are able to prepare the best possible course for our members and visitors to play.

“The annual Open week features daily competitions for eight days and means reliable machinery is essential. Toro has a reputation for being the best and most reliable turfcare machinery in the industry. We also chose Toro as their local dealer to us, Cheshire Turf Machinery, provides a second to none back up service for the club. “

Having been running for over 90 years, Cavendish is widely recognised as one of the finest golf courses in Derbyshire. Famous for being the inspiration for the Augusta National Golf Club, in Georgia, US, Cavendish is one of over 100 golf courses around the world that renowned British golf course architect Dr Alister McKenzie helped to design.

With the Augusta National designed seven years after Cavendish by McKenzie, they share remarkable similarities in topography, including undulating terrain.

Colin says he and the team chose specific Toro models in order to maintain McKenzie’s signature course design: “We chose the Toro Multi Pro 5800 sprayer, for example, as it copes very well with the undulating terrain we have.

“Also the new Toro greens machines we chose, the GR3420 Triflex, have seen our greens flourish,” he adds.

Royal Reesink acquired Toro UK distributor Lely Turfcare in July 2016 and renamed the business Reesink Turfcare. The Netherlands’-based organisation, which has 19 group companies, already distributes Toro machinery in the Benelux through its subsidiaries Jean Heybroek and Packo.

Reesink Turfcare is the exclusive distributor in the UK and Ireland for Toro professional turfcare machinery and irrigation products for the golf, sport and amenity sectors. It is based at 1 Station Road, St Neots PE19 1QH. Call 01480 226800, email info@reesinkturfcare.co.uk or visit reesinkturface.co.uk
