To maintain the impressive courses and teaching facilities at Rustington Golf Centre, course manager, Grant Burger, has returned to local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer, Ernest Doe and Sons Ltd, for more turf maintenance equipment.
The latest arrivals at the south coast’s premier golfing facility include a Jacobsen LF-3800 light fairway mower, a Smithco greens roller and a Cushman Turf-Truckster with mounted Turfco WideSpin1540 top dresser.
“The new LF-3800 is a direct replacement for our previous LF mower, which has served the club extremely well, so it wasn’t a difficult purchasing decision,” said Grant, who has been at Rustington for just over 10 years. “We have an older Cushman truckster, which we use for spraying and core harvesting, but the new one will be mainly used for top dressing, but also as the tractor unit for our sorrel roller and slitting equipment.
“The Turfco top dresser is a great piece of equipment; very impressive, even when applying wet sand. I’m a great believer in the little and often approach when it comes to putting down dressings and this is one of the best on the market. The Smithco roller does what it says on the tin; it’s easy to operate and produces a good, firm and true putting surface.”
Rustington Golf Centre was opened in 1992 as part of the diversification programme of the Langmead family, who had owned and farmed the land for over 40 years. The main building infrastructure and driving range was built in the initial construction phase, with the par 27, nine-hole course opening in 1993. Two years later, the nine-hole, 18-tee par 70 course, the academy course and putting green were opened by the former heavyweight boxer, Sir Henry Cooper.
