Planning policy for golf under review

12.10am 1st June 2001 - Course Development

The new draft Planning Policy Guidance 17 on Sport, Open Spaces and Recreation, if left unaltered, could have a very serious effect on the future of golf course development in England. Many people in the golf business, however, are not yet aware of the document

The Department of the Environment issues Planning Policy Guidance Notes to inform all concerned about central changes in policy guidance. On this occasion it seems that, unusually, direct consultation with golfing organisations has not happened. It has not so far been possible for those involved in the future planning of golf to co-ordinate a response. The period of consultation finishes on 15th June.
