National managing agent Oneday has marked a successful first six months at Bowring Park & Golf Course in Merseyside, with an initial £1.2m worth of regeneration works underway and the creation of 11 new jobs.
Oneday took over the management of the oldest park in Knowsley and the first municipal golf course in England earlier this year. Alongside Knowsley Metropolitan Borough Council and stakeholders including the Friends of Bowring Park and Mens and Womens Golf Clubs , the team are working together to rejuvenate the community facility and complete the National Lottery Heritage Fund Restoration Project.
In addition to completing the restoration works ambitious plans for the first phase of the park include a new Playground, currently being installed, a new home for local F&B provider Root Catering who will be operating The Coach House Cafe, a dedicated website with the ability to book a round online, a separate footgolf course and six new golf buggies also, to aid accessibility and inclusivity for all players.
Working within the local community to provide employment and job opportunities, a selection of the new positions created at the park include, reception team members, a development officer, a groundskeeper and a park ranger.
Matt Bell, Director, Oneday, said:“We focus on creating places that meet the needs of local residents and getting the job done. That is what we are doing to ensure Bowring Park & Golf Course remains at the heart of this community. A place where families can come to relax and unwind in a welcoming environment, alongside an inclusive and well-maintained golf course. We are also thrilled to welcome Root who is a great, local independent business, and will be serving visitors specialty coffees, teas and quality food.
“The Oneday approach of collaborative work and action between the public, private and third sectors is a model that we would like to see successfully delivered throughout the country, working together to bring community assets like Bowring Park & Golf Course back to life.”
Cllr Shelley Powell, Knowsley Council’s cabinet member for communities and neighbourhoods, added:“We’re delighted to see Oneday’s exciting plans for Bowring Park & Golf Course coming to fruition. They’re not only bringing improvements to the golf course, but also providing a food and drink offer and creating new job opportunities.
“I look forward to seeing Oneday’s plans progress over the coming months and years, for the benefit of our residents and visitors to the park!”
Tommy Givnan, Bowring Park & Golf Course groundskeeper, said:“Having worked at the park and on the golf course since the 90s, I’ve been here through the ups and downs! I’m looking forward to seeing the other improvements over the next few months and the golfers, dog walkers and families continuing to enjoy the facility.”
Alex Prescott, director, Root Catering, said:“As a local independent caterer with deep ‘roots’ in the borough already, it is a really proud moment for myself and Daniel (director), to announce ourselves as the sole F&B provider at Bowring Park & Golf Course as the venue enters into an exciting new period.
“With a variety of food options to whet the appetite and a range of curated events coming in the future, we can’t wait to provide an exemplary service to the visitors coming to the park, both inside and out.”
With the Bowring Park and Golf Course build set to be completed by November, Oneday is currently putting together an inclusive calendar of events for 2023, with art, culture, and sport at its heart.
