Golfers in west London received an early Christmas present last week, as footballer Les Ferdinand MBE formally declared the new West London Golf Centre open.
But the smart new driving range is merely the next piece of a golfing jigsaw, which will see three brand new golf courses open nearby before the end of the decade.
On Thursday 6th December 2012, west London sports legend and keen golfer ‘Sir’ Les cut the tape, and promptly boomed a 260-yard drive straight down the centre line.
With him were friends from showbusiness including DJ and broadcaster Trevor Nelson MBE and ex-Eastenders actor Alex Ferns, and a large crowd of onlookers who had gathered for the occasion.
american golf and Scott Cranfield open at WLGC
Also watching were Sky Sports golf coach Scott Cranfield, whose latest coaching academy is based at the centre, and staff from the new 4,500 sq ft american golf superstore which also acts as Reception for the golf centre.
“At West London Golf Centre we have a superb, east-facing 300 yard contoured and floodlit range – which is exactly what golfers want – and we have also brought together two major brands, american golf and Cranfield Golf Academy,” said WLGC owner, golf developer Tony Menai Davis.
“Both represent the best in their field, and golfers in this area need look no further for somewhere to shop, or to improve their game. I am delighted to be working with both Scott Cranfield and the team at american golf, and I am convinced that with such quality all in the one place, we will become the essential destination for all golfers in westLondon.”
Three new golf courses for north and west London
In autumn 2013 the West London Golf Centre’s 3,500 yard nine-hole golf course will open, offering a challenging full-length test of golf winding through mature parkland and featuring several water hazards.
Across the A4180 a further 18-hole inland links will open by 2016. The West London Links will transform a 170-acre area near RAF Northolt into a championship-length course intended to give Londoners a fresh and attractive links-style test of golf.
And in 2013, the family will announce details of a further 18-hole championship golf course, situated in north London, which will be the most spectacular of the three.
Tony Menai Davis, who also owns and operates the popular The Shire London near Barnet, north London, said: “West London Golf Centre is another piece in the jigsaw. We’ve been planning to develop the old Lime Trees site for a number of years, and it all came together in 2012. Our aim is to provide the finest golf practice facility in west London, and I think people will also love what we’ve done with the accompanying nine-hole course when it opens next year.
“The adjacent 18-hole West London Links will be an even bigger attraction for this area, when it opens in 2016, and beyond that we will soon reveal plans for at least one other extraordinary new golf course in the north London area, to be opened before the decade is out.”
The West London Golf Centre can be found on the A4180, 750 yards south of the A40 Polish War Memorial exit, a short distance from South Ruislip and RAF Northolt. Its website can be found at www.westlondongolfcentre.com
