New golf complex for Essex

2.10pm 4th May 2001 - Course Development

FPDSavills have announced the completion of a long lease on behalf of The Peer Group Plc to UK Golf & Leisure for the construction of an 18 hole golf course at Ongar Park. Formerly part of the Ongar radio station at North Weald Bassett, the site adjoins the town and lies about 7 miles north of the M25 and 3 miles from M11 Junction 7 with long frontage to the A414. Design work for the site, which is about 185 acres, was carried out during the negotiations over the lease.

Now that the contracts have been signed work will begin immediately to establish a high quality club house with driving range and full length, 18 hole golf course, designed by Howard Swan, which will be open to membership and pay and play.

Alan Plumb of FPDSavills says, “UK Golf & Leisure Ltd is a well known and reputable company with a sound track record in the construction and operation of golf course developments in the UK. This project forms an integral part of the scheme for the after use of Ongar radio station, agreed with the Council by The Peer Group Plc. The Peer Group is a forward looking, responsible development company whose plans for the site very much take the local community and environment into account. Their teaming up with UK Golf & Leisure is designed to produce a first class recreational facility for the area.”
