GC Colli Berici plans improvements to enhance its attraction for international tourists. The Club is located in a beautiful hillside area between Verona and Venice, the famous Italian art cities visited by many tourists.
Last year club president Alberto Ferrari, a dynamic industrialist of Vicenza, and his team renewed the practice facilities and started the enlargement of the clubhouse, in order to host conference end social events.
For the 18 holes golf course the Club and the management company have scheduled a gradual transformation of the course, aiming to keep and enhance the typical characteristics such as the natural hilly landscape, fantastic views and good climatic conditions, remodelling the course itself for having it less tough in golfing and transfers, strategically more interesting and therefore attractive for tourism.
This Spring. golf architect Wilfried (Willy) Moroder, managing director of Moroder Project Service Ltd and an associate of the EIGCA – European Institute of Golf Course Architects – has been charged with the redesign of the golf course. He has already started with a status quo analysis and preliminary studies.
MPS reproduced the “as built plans” on aero-photography and regional level plans and at the moment studies alternative routings and possible improvements for the single holes, integrating them in a general Masterplan able to fit in plots for eventual tourist structures in a sustainable way, from the landscape and ecological point of view.
The purpose of the redesign will be the restructuring of the course and especially of some holes, restyling the most beautiful holes which obviously should be kept, and the eventual implementation of new strategic holes unifying the whole in design and character.
With his company MPS-Golf Design based in Bolzano, northern Italy, Willy Moroder has been in the golf course design business for more than 15 years and is currently working on several projects inItaly, among them a big country & golf resort with 36 holes and horse riding centre in Piemonte.
Already in occasion of the enlargement of the GC Passiria-Merano to 18 holes MPS has done a redesign of the old 9 holes course integrating it into the new one with optimal result; close to the clubhouse the 5*Andreus Golf Resort & Spa.
Recently Moroder got a notable success in the USAhaving been awarded 3rd prize in the “Golf Inc. Renovation of the Year Award 2011” for the Mountain Course at Castelfalfi in Tuscany which he co-designed with his colleague Rainer Preissmann for the famous German tour operator TUI.
