Faldo Design’s Portuguese Passion

12.15am 7th May 2007 - Course Development

Six-time Major winner Nick Faldo is making regular visits to the Amendoeira Golf Resort in the Algarve to review progress on Faldo Design’s eagerly awaited first golf course design project in Portugal. With construction at the development now quite advanced, Faldo is confident that his course is set to become a very special addition to the region’s burgeoning collection of golf courses.

Faldo commented, “This is a very exciting stage of the design process, when you can really begin to see the layout taking shape, and I am delighted with the progress that has been made at Amendoeira. There’s a definite feel of Arizona about our course and this will be reflected in the many varied desert-style features that we have incorporated. In terms of strategy, this will be a course that will demand – and reward – a very thoughtful approach; this, coupled with the vastness of the landscape here, will make for a dramatic and entirely engaging round of golf. We’ll be bringing a flavour of the American southwest to the Algarve and once our course at Amendoeira is completed I think that it will go on to be recognised as one of the finest examples of desert-style golf in Europe.”

Oce®nico Group’s €500million Amendoeira Golf Resort covers 640-acres on the Algarve, near Silves, and is designed to be one of the finest five-star golf resorts in Europe. Scheduled for Phase 1 completion in spring 2008, properties available for purchase at the resort include apartments, townhouses, villas and new luxury Prestige villas, with each offering the highest quality design and facilities, together with views of either the Faldo Course, or the O’Connor course (designed by Christy O’Connor Jnr).

Simon Burgess, director of the Oce®nico Group, said, “The development of Nick’s course at Amendoeira is changing on a daily basis, with the design set to offer a world-class course in a stunning setting. The Algarve is renowned for the quality of its golf facilities, and Amendoeira will enhance this further with both of our courses offering golfers of all levels an experience that will be hard to beat. Over the next 12 months the various elements of the resort will all come together, so it is a very exciting time for Oce®nico and we are looking forward to working with Faldo Design on the final completion of what will be a fantastic course.”

The Amendoeira Golf Resort is a striking addition to Faldo Design’s global portfolio of projects. In Europe alone, and aside from its work in the Algarve, the company is currently crafting courses in such diverse destinations as Iceland, Denmark, Turkey, Ireland, Cyprus, Madeira and Russia.
