ClubstoHire.com, the innovative and fast-growing golf club rental firm backed by Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley, has won the Vodafone Startup award for ‘Best Service’.

Heading a list of 400 companies that were considered for the service award at the Royal Hibernian Academy, the Dublin-based firm was chosen by leading entrepreneurs and business owners as the No.1 thanks to its convenient golf club rental service at 16 European locations. The rental clubs – available from €35 per set per week – have helped save golfers more than €1m in additional airline baggage charges since ClubstoHire was launched in July 2010.

“We’re delighted to win this fantastic award – particularly since it shows the recognition from our peers for the product and service we provide,” said CEO Tony Judge. “Our aim has always been to help make golfing holidays more enjoyable, convenient and less expensive, and with more locations shortly to be announced, we’re continuing to do everything possible to make this happen.”

Through ClubstoHire, golfers can rent clubs from the likes of TaylorMade, Callaway and Wilsonat popular Mediterranean destinations, from Belek in the east to Faro in the west. More than 30,000 sets of clubs were hired out in 2012 and a new website was launched earlier this year to provide a faster and more comprehensive service to cope with the increasing number of bookings.

The company also recently added another dimension to its service with its own comprehensive ‘Guide to Golf on the Algarve’ – free for thousands of golfers booking clubs through the Faro shop in Portugal. The 32-page publication provides an in-depth course guide for all 36 golf clubs in the region, as well as details of restaurants and places to stay and relax during a golfing trip.

ClubstoHire locations also include Lisbon; Murcia; Alicante; Barcelona; Girona; Malaga; La Linea/Gibraltar; Palma, Majorca; Tenerife; Gran Canaria; Aphrodite Hills, Cyprus; Isle of Man, as well as Edinburgh and Dublin.
