Bowood Golf and Country Club, situated in 200 acres of rolling Wiltshire countryside near Calne, has recently refreshed its golf course maintenance and golf car fleets with a substantial investment in new equipment from local Ransomes Jacobsen dealer, TH White Ltd. Ransomes Jacobsen is a Textron Inc (NYSE: TXT) company and one of the leading manufacturers and distributors of commercial mowing equipment and golf cars.

The equipment delivered earlier this season from the Jacobsen brand includes an AR522 five unit rotary mower, an LF3800 light fairway mower and an Eclipse 322 greens mower, the latest hybrid-powered mower which uses a small diesel to power the electrical systems on the mower. Course manager Jaey Goodchild also purchased a diesel-powered Smithco Super Star bunker rake.

Commenting on the new equipment he said, “I’m particularly impressed with the AR522; the build quality is excellent and it’s a very versatile mower. We use it on tee surrounds, semi rough and for maintaining the areas around the club house. With five individual rotary decks with rear rollers it provides a fantastic finish across highly contoured areas.

“The Eclipse 322 is also a very good greens mower; it’s a very maintenance-friendly with a swing-out centre unit and its fuel economy is excellent due to the small diesel engine used to power the onboard generator.”

The golf car fleet has also been upgraded; the previous 16 petrol-powered buggies have been replaced with 20 of E-Z-GO’s latest electric RXV golf cars. Estate manger Charles Leather commented, “These latest electric golf cars use highly efficient 48 volt systems and have resulted in a significant saving on fuel costs, when compared to our previous petrol engined buggies. We have added a further four vehicles to the fleet as a direct result of demand from our members and visitors.

“Our aim is to provide the best experience for everyone who visits Bowood, be it guests at the hotel, visitors to the Spa or our golfers. Having a modern fleet of equipment to maintain the golf course and to move people around the resort contributes to quality of our offering here at Bowood.
