Alps Tour adds Andorran venue to summer schedule

10.50am 17th May 2022 - Course Development

The Alps Tour has announced the addition of a new tournament to its 2022 schedule, with the hosting of the Aravell Golf Open at Aravell Golf & Country Club in Spain from June 16-18.

The tournament is the brainchild of former European Tour player José Manuel Lara, who had the idea of starting this new collaboration to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the club. The Aravell Golf Open by Credit Andorrá will feature a field of 144 players – 94 Alps Tour players, and 50 Spanish players and invites and will have a prize fund of €40,000.

“This event confirms the solidity of the Andorran golf project, promoted by the Andorran Golf Federation together with the Credit Andorrá”, said José Manuel Lara, 44, winner of one Challenge Tour and two European Tour titles between 1998 and 2010. “FGA and Credit Andorrá are working together to promote and grow the game of golf in Andorra, and I believe this is a goal that fits very well with the Alps Tour claim of ‘raising golf stars’, growing a quality professional game with the backing from national golf federations of host countries.”

Alps Tour CEO Estelle Richard said: “We are very honuored to be received for the very first time at the Aravell Golf Club, renowned for its design by José María Olazábal and the quality of its course and facilities. We sincerely thank Credit Andorrá for having made this European sporting event possible. It is a great privilege for the Alps Tour to include a new destination in our calendar.

“The Aravell Golf Open by Credit Andorrá will also be an opportunity to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the golf course, much to the delight of golf lovers in the region.
I would like to express my sincere thanks to promoter José Manuel Lara, who has been able to convince the partners and participants to make this competition an essential event of the season.”

Aravell Golf & Country Club’s 6,155-metre course, which first opened in 1987, is located in a large valley, 700m above sea level, surrounded by the Pyrenees and with views of the Cadi Mountain.
