US-based golf component company Tom Wishon Golf Technology has announced the Wishon Golf brand and operations are to be passed on to Diamond Golf International, Europe’s premier golf components supplier.

After 40 years in the industry, accomplished golf equipment designer Tom Wishon has decided to move towards semi-retirement, and hand over the Wishon Golf brand to Diamond Golf International, based in the UK.

The handover, which officially takes place on October 1, will bring together over 70 years’ experience in the club making and component business.

Colorado-based Wishon Golf was founded in 2003 by Tom Wishon, the custom clubmaking industry’s most widely acclaimed equipment designer. During his long and successful career, Tom has been recognised for creating innovative designs for clubheads, shafts, grips and clubmaking tools and technology products, and is credited with more than 50 clubhead technology firsts.

Following the move, Tom Wishon will be stepping down from day-to-day operations, but will remain in a technical supporting role performing all clubhead, shaft and product designs for DGI, whose headquarters will remain in Sussex, England.

Tom Wishon said: “Diamond Golf is by far the oldest, largest, and most experienced clubmaking supply company in Europe, and there is no other company in the world I would trust with the future management and distribution of the Wishon Golf product line.

“I have a 35-year relationship with Diamond Golf, and during that time, it has been the UK/European distributor for almost every club head, shaft and clubmaking product that I have created in my career in the custom clubmaking industry. I couldn’t think of better hands for our business to be handed over to.”

Daren Treacy

Founded by Chris Treacy in 1978, UK-based Diamond Golf International (DGI) is Europe’s leading supplier of clubheads, shafts and grips in Europe. It has worked with many of the game’s leading brands, including True Temper, KBS, Nippon, Mitsubishi Rayon, Golf Pride, Lamkin, G-Rip and Winn, to name but a few.

DGI has been distributing Wishon Golf designs and products in Europe for the past fourteen years, resulting in a deep understanding of not only the product line, but of the Wishon Golf design and Clubfitting technology philosophy.

DGI Managing Director Daren Treacy is confident that Wishon Golf’s customers will continue to enjoy a personal and professional level of service following the transfer of the Wishon operation to the UK, and has put in place numerous measures to ensure clients will enjoy even better trading terms.

“Diamond Golf has worked with Wishon for as long as I can remember. We have the utmost respect for Tom, and all he has achieved in a long and distinguished career in club making and design,” said Daren. “The opportunity to take over the reins and continue the great work started by Tom on the worldwide stage is an exciting development, and we are delighted that he will remain with us, providing sound advice in technical support and development of the range.”

Treacy added: “In commercial terms, the combining of our two companies will serve to strengthen our position as Europe’s biggest components supplier, and broaden our reach to the global marketplace. In the meantime, it’s very much ‘business as usual’, and we are looking forward to building and developing our relationships with Wishon Golf customers.”
