Skechers Step Up For The Oldest Contest In Golf

Members of the Royal Regiment of Artillery Golf Team experienced Skechers GoGolf comfort as they took on arch-rivals the Royal Engineers in their annual golf contest played at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent.

All the Royal Regiment players were kitted out with a pair of the leading golf brand’s Elite 4 shoes for the historic match – the oldest fixture in golf contested by the same teams at the same location.

The 115th edition of the annual event was played in challenging conditions over two days, with the Royal Engineers eventually emerging victorious by a final score of 14.5-9.5.

Established in 1895, the match has been played every year since, aside from the First and Second World Wars, and was even contested during the COVID pandemic.

Major Jack Musgrove RA, Army and Royal Artillery golf captain, said: “This year’s event has been one our most challenging yet, battling 30mph-plus winds and playing a course set up for the Open Championship, and the final score really doesn’t reflect just how close some of these matches were.

“We have been delighted with the Skechers Elite 4 golf shoes and I would like to personally thank Ben Davis and Skechers GoGolf for supporting the Royal Regiment of Royal Artillery Golf Team in what was our 115th fixture.

“Stepping out in new shoes over 72 holes with not one complaint of sore feet is amazing and testament to the comfort and technology found in the Elite 4 golf shoes.  Many of us have moved away from our previous footwear brands and we’ll continue to wear Skechers golf shoes.”

Ben Davis, commercial director at YUMAX Golf, said: “We are delighted to support Major Jack Musgrove RA and the Royal Regiment of Artillery Golf Team with Skechers golf shoes.

“Feedback like this underlines the importance of wearing the right shoes out on the golf course and we all know that a great round can be ruined by uncomfortable shoes.

“Skechers’ ‘out of the box’ comfort is world renowned, and it’s great to see we have even more converts to the brand. Commiserations to Major Jack RA on this year’s result and we look forward to a change of fortunes next year.”
