Ransomes Jacobsen host environment and education seminar

9.00am 17th June 2003 - Corporate

The company’s first Environment and Education seminar took place at Donnington Valley Golf Club in Berkshire.

Delegates from across the golfing industry were invited to the two-day programme, which aimed to highlight the evolution of environmentally friendly golfing practices and technologies; emphasise the importance of greenkeeper training and education and to demonstrate the Ransomes Jacobsen commitment to alternative power.

Leading industry professionals made presentations. David Stubbs, executive director of the Committed to Green programme, promoted higher standards of environmental performance in the development and management of golf facilities and events. Dean Cleaver, secretary of FEGGA, spoke on the reasons for initiating a blueprint for sustainable golf. Barry Ohrman, for Calor Gas, spoke on why LPG is a viable alternative fuel and BIGGA education and training manager, Ken Richardson, spoke on the importance of greenkeeper education and training, focusing on the BIGGA higher education scholarships, which are supported by Ransomes Jacobsen.

David Withers, sales and marketing director, said, “At Ransomes Jacobsen we are totally dedicated to developing alternative power solutions, a point which has been illustrated recently by achieving the ISO 14001 certification, making us the first manufacturer within the UK turf care industry to achieve this significant international standard.

“We also recognise that it is people who will shape the future of the golfing industry and are therefore committed to supporting educational programmes for future greenkeepers.

“The Environment and Education Day was an ideal way to demonstrate this commitment and, thanks to the high calibre of speakers, I am delighted to say it was a total success.”
