Premier Turfing Ltd has expanded its presence in the golf sector after acquiring the staff, operational assets, specialist machinery and ongoing work previously undertaken by John Greasley Ltd.

The deal has resulted in the formation of Premier Golf, a dedicated golf contracting business which will continue to provide golf course construction, renovation and drainage services across the UK.

John Greasley has operated in the golf course construction industry for more than four decades, building a reputation for championship course remodelling, complex drainage installations and new course construction, with projects completed at a number of leading UK golf clubs.

Under the new structure, the existing team and specialist machinery will remain in place, backed by the investment, resources and wider operational capabilities of Premier Turfing.

The acquisition builds on a long-standing relationship between the two companies. Premier Turfing has worked alongside John Greasley as a subcontractor for around 20 years, collaborating on golf course construction, drainage and renovation projects throughout the UK.

Founded more than 20 years ago by father-and-son team Robert and Ian Mawer, Premier Turfing has developed into a major specialist sports turf contractor.

Led by managing director Ian Mawer (pictured above left), the family-owned company undertakes construction, drainage, irrigation, renovation and maintenance projects for Premier League football clubs, rugby venues, championship golf courses, racecourses, educational establishments and local authorities.

Mawer, who will also serve as managing director of Premier Golf, said the acquisition represented a natural progression for the two businesses.

“We’ve worked alongside Charlie and the John Greasley team for many years, so this wasn’t simply an acquisition – it was the natural continuation of a relationship built on trust and shared values,” he said. “We knew the quality of the people, the standard of their work and the reputation they had earned throughout the golf industry.”

Mawer added that Premier Golf would build on the reputation established by John Greasley while providing customers with the additional resources and investment available through Premier Turfing.

“We see ourselves not as replacing that legacy, but as building upon it for the future,” he said.

Charlie Greasley is leaving the sports turf and golf industries to pursue new business ventures with his wife and family.

Premier Golf will now focus on delivering golf course construction, renovation and drainage projects for clubs throughout the UK.
