Huxley Golf has designed and installed a new short game practice area at Stirling University

The R&A supported University wished to upgrade its specialist golf practice facilities to promote the best possible training procedures and create a realistic playing experience year-round for the budding champions of the future.

The new oval shaped Huxley Golf putting and chipping green is large, measuring 60ft (18.2m) long by 37ft (11. 2m) wide and it echoes the undulations of the natural environment. The putting area was finished with an attractive and robust Huxley Golf Premier Leisure Turf fringe which offers excellent chipping properties.

High Performance Coach and former Italian Open Champion Dean Robertson commented: “I wanted to create a tournament quality realistic all-weather green that would mirror ball roll and speed to help our students really work on their putting and chipping techniques. It was also important that our new short game practice area was effectively designed, not only to provide a challenge for our students, but also to be sympathetic to our wonderful natural environment. Huxley Golf’s team expertly guided us through the process from initial consultation through to installation and we’re extremely pleased with the result.”

The University has nurtured and played host to some of the best names in the game.  Its hall of fame includes British Open winner and undoubtedly the best female Scottish golfer of her generation, Catriona Matthew, and European Tour Golfer Richie Ramsay.  Its world class training facilities also include a nine-hole par-3 parkland golf course, 280-yard driving range, video analysis teaching room and state-of-the-art sports science laboratories. The campus is regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world, with views of a large loch and an historic castle, so the new facility had to be in keeping with the stunning aesthetics of its surroundings as well as being of the utmost quality.

Director of Huxley Golf Paul Huxley said: “We were delighted to be asked by the University of Stirling to help them with this project.  It’s extremely rewarding to think that the green that we helped create will play a small part in coaching tomorrow’s successful golf champions.”

Huxley Golf provides premier all-weather surfaces for golf around the world. Clients include training and coaching establishments, golf resorts, ranges and academies as well as many well-known golf courses.
