Golfbreaks and Mastercard Renew Partnership for 2020

4.17pm 20th January 2020 - Corporate - This story was updated on Wednesday, January 22nd, 2020

Golfbreaks has confirmed the extension of its customer-focussed partnership with Mastercard.

The announcement follows the successful implementation of the 2019 campaign, which saw 16 Golfbreaks customers tackle an immaculately conditioned Royal Portrush as part of Mastercard’s Patrons Day just a month ahead of The 148th Open Championship. Hosted by two-time Open champion Padraig Harrington, the guests attended a personal clinic from Harrington before the round, and a dining experience in Royal Portrush’s clubhouse in the evening.

The 2020 activation will again see Golfbreaks customers take part in Mastercard’s Patrons Day, this year hosted at the site of the 149th Open Championship at Royal St George’s Golf Club in Kent. Golfbreaks customers who pay for a trip with their Mastercard between December 27, 2019 and April 30, 2020 will be entered into the prize draw, with four winners drawn – each able to bring three guests for an experience of a lifetime. In addition to the Patrons Day attendees, Golfbreaks and Mastercard will also offer the opportunity for customers to win accommodation and tickets to The Open at Royal St George’s.

To commemorate the extension of the partnership, and Golfbreaks’ continuation as an authorised provider of tickets for The Open, the Claret Jug visited Golfbreaks’ Windsor HQ on January 20. The Claret Jug’s visit, courtesy of Mastercard, allowed Golfbreaks’ staff the opportunity to get their own picture with the most famous trophy in golf. The trophy appearance kicks off a big year of on-site activations at tournament and events for Golfbreaks both in the UK and in the USA, building on the recent announcement of a Global partnership with the PGA TOUR in late 2019.

Golfbreaks’ Head of Commercial Marketing, James Somerside, commented: “We’re extremely proud that our Mastercard partnership continues to grow, and that we’re working together to create something so memorable for our customers and staff. Having the Claret Jug in our office wasa fantastic experience, and we’re already seeing great interest from our customers who are eager to be a part of the 2020 Patrons Day at Royal St George’s.”

Nigel Thomson, Mastercard’s Merchant Marketing Director for UK and Ireland, said: We’re proud to be a patron and the Official Card of The Open. This prestigious championship is where the world’s finest golfers set out for the honour of lifting one of sport’s most iconic trophies, The Claret Jug. Bringing the iconic trophy to the Windsor office is a great way to kick off our third year of working with Golfbreaks.”
