Pin High Golf Group, the golf & leisure management consultants and club operators, have signed a 12 month extension to their management consultancy agreement with Canterbury Golf Club.

The Harry Colt designed course opened in 1927 and is a member-owned club. Earlier this year it took up an option to purchase the freehold from the landowners, the Ministry of Defence, who are looking to close down the nearby army barracks.

The Club’s decision to employ the services of a golf consultant has received a glowing endorsement following the release of a report into the club’s progress over the past 12 months.

The report, produced by a working party of board members, reveals that consultant Pin High Golf Group, through their operations director Roger Hyder, has been instrumental in improving the club’s financial situation by more than £70,000 in the 5 months since April.

In addition, Pin High has introduced more efficient management practices and has initiated much needed clubhouse and course improvements.

The profile of the club has risen significantly through the marketing plan put in place by Pin High and has seen the likes of Peter Alliss and former Ryder Cup hero Paul Way attend lunches at the club.

Club director David Elliott said “ Pin High have really helped the club achieve its financial goals whilst maintaining the ethos of being a member orientated golf club, which isn’t easy.” He continued: “It is with this in mind that the Board overwhelmingly agreed to extend the contract with Pin High for another 12 months”

Canterbury’s secretary, Jonathan Webb, commented: “I have really enjoyed working with Roger and Pin High. They have shown me that the future of any members’ club lies in it becoming much more commercially minded and I feel that my skill set has much improved with their help”

Roger Hyder, operations director for Pin High, said: “It has been a delight working with the board and staff at Canterbury, all of whom have been very open minded to our suggestions and direction, and we are looking forward to the next 12 months.”

He added: “At Pin High we are finding more and more clubs are approaching us for varying amounts of assistance, anything from 1 or 2 days consultancy to full blown management contracts, and we are happy to talk to anybody on an informal basis.”

Some of the golf clubs that Pin High Golf Group have already worked with this year include Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire; Maylands Golf Club in Essex; Stafford Castle Golf Club; Sport England; and Canterbury Golf Club amongst several others.
