John Letters, ‘Scotland’s finest clubmaker’, showcased its TR47 range at the recent Scottish Golf Show to popular acclaim – with brand officials declaring “business begins at home!”

Exhibiting for the fourth successive year, the John Letters brand was very much in demand in the driving bays, particularly as the show was the first occasion the public could test the TR47 range.

John Letters product development manager, James Graham, said: “It was an incredibly busy few days for all of us connected with John Letters, and, as a proud Scottish brand, it was great to be able to showcase the new range for the first time ‘at home’…

“It was a very successful show; there were long queues getting into the venue and a constant stream of people on the stand and on the driving range looking to test out the TR47 clubs. We were rushed off our feet and the range was incredibly well received.

“The Scottish public are traditionally a very knowledgeable audience when it comes to golf equipment, but the TR47 shocked a lot of them because of the powerful sound and strike generated by the ultra-thin 2.2mm face – the ball really explodes off the club face.

“Many of the comments we received concentrated on the classic looks of the clubs and the impressive distance to be achieved with the irons while still being forgiving. It’s really gratifying as a brand to be able to speak to the end user face to face on occasions like this and receive such positive feedback.”

He added: “There is a huge fondness for the brand in Scotland as John Letters was founded in Glasgow. Remarkably, many of the visitors to our stand have owned John Letters product or even worked for the company. It was great to be back home with the business.”

The TR47 range pays homage to the past with a nod to the future. The figure 47 signifies the year of Fred Daly’s glorious Open victory, where he used John Letters’ equipment, and the TR is an abbreviation of ‘Trilogy’, a reference to the three different clubs styles in the set: hybrids, cavity irons and bladed sand wedges. The Trilogy set was seen as ground-breaking when it was launched many years ago, just like the TR47 is today.

John Letters has been producing golf clubs since 1918 and many prestigious golfers have used the brand, including former Open champions Fred Daly, Paul Lawrie, Lee Trevino and Gary Player, Ryder Cup captains Sam Torrance, Dai Rees and Bernard Gallacher, and the current European Senior Tour order of merit winner Paul Wesselingh.
