The British Golf Industry Association (BGIA) is delighted to welcome the Ladies European Tour (LET) as a new associate member.
The LET is Europe’s leading women’s professional golf tour and formed as the WPGA in 1978. Over the years, the Tour has evolved into a truly international organisation. In 2015, it will hold more than 20 tournaments in 18 different countries involving players from 37 different nations. In addition to the tournaments, in 2014, the LET introduced a Development Department that works in partnership with people, organisations and national federations to inspire women and girls to play golf and encourage them to achieve their aspirations.
Mike Round, the LET’s Director of Development and Membership said: “The LET has connections with many of the golf industry companies and it shares the BGIA’s desire to grow the game, particularly amongst women and girls. Therefore, joining the BGIA as an Associate Member makes perfect sense. We look forward to working alongside the BGIA on initiatives that raise the profile of golf for women and girls and lead to an increase in participation.”
The BGIA is the UK’s lead trade body representing UK manufacturers, wholesalers and distributors of golf products and services. Companies related to the golf industry, that are not directly engaged in the manufacture, wholesaling and/or distribution of golf products and services can all become associate members of the BGIA.
The BGIA has already committed to the LET by part funding its initiative to implement a women and girls development plan centred on the Ladies European Masters (LEM), which took place at The Buckinghamshire in July 2015. The BGIA contributed toward this initiative via its Grow Golf Fund with the expectation that the plan would lead to increased participation levels for women and girls. After becoming involved in this LET project, enabling the LET to become BGIA associate members seemed the next logical step.
