Ashworth report unprecedented demand for official merchandise as spectators snap up mementos of the historic European victory
What a week for European golf and what a week for Ashworth at the K-Club. As the world’s #1 golf apparel company and the lead vendor at the Ryder Cup they expected huge demand for their wide range of Official Merchandise but nothing quite like the scenes that unfolded in the merchandising tent on site at the K-Club.
Over 45,000 Ashworth products were sold in just 6 days amounting to a massive seven figure Euro sum at retail as Ashworth dominated the merchandising tent with 40% of the floor space. Ashworth had a complete range of shirts, sweaters and caps on sale including a specific Ryder Cup clothing collection based on the striking blue and gold colours of the European Union flag. The Ashworth stock completely sold out with many customers buying multiple bags full of merchandise with the biggest transaction being for an amazing 412 pieces.
Grahame Jenkins, managing director at Ashworth Europe was overwhelmed by the response. “We knew this would be big but we never expected a response like this. It has been a long hard week for my staff and I would like to personally thank them and our loyal customers for making this the most successful event in the history of Ashworth Europe.”
Jenkins was in demand too, featuring on Sky TV, as well as national and local TV and radio in Ireland. “It has been extremely rewarding to be able to showcase our products and brand to a massive golf audience at the most prestigious event of the year,” he continued.
In the run up to the Ryder Cup, the official merchandise has been in huge demand too, both with consumers and blue chip corporate customers proving that golfers and blue chip companies alike are keen to be associated with the market leaders in golf apparel.
Ashworth have enjoyed a 14-year unbroken relationship with the Ryder Cup and as well as being lead vendor they are one of a small selection of companies to hold a License Agreement for the Ryder Cup. This entitles the company to manufacture and sell Ryder Cup merchandise in 33 countries across Ashworth’s European distribution network.
As the dust settles on an incredible week, Ashworth fully expect to announce its fourth consecutive record year, a run of form that bares comparison to the victorious European Ryder Cup team.
