Golf clubs across England, Scotland and Wales will soon be welcoming 62 new golf industry employees as part of the Government’s Kickstart initiative, it was confirmed today by Promote Golf and The LSS Group. In addition, applications have been submitted for a further 92 placements, which the partnership expect to see approval for within two weeks.
The scheme offers UK golf club’s 6-month work placements for 18 to 24 year olds, with salary, training and continuing employment mentoring being fully funded by the Government. Since then, over 100 golf clubs have registered their interest in appointing a very wide range of positions from summer greenkeepers, bar & kitchen personnel to office staff and the golf operations team.
Talking of the success, David Reeves, Managing Director of Promote Golf, says, “it’s fantastic to support young people in getting a foot in the door of the golf industry. There are many enthusiastic and hard-working youngsters out there keen to work in golf and hospitality, and this Government initiative is a great opportunity for them.”
David continues, “As an approved Gateway, The LSS Group have a track record of successful applications. This ensures minimal administration is needed by the golf clubs and they can focus on recruiting the right individuals for their club.”
Once employment commences, Promote Golf provide an extensive suite of online training courses for the new member of staff. This covers both essential health & safety aspects of working at a golf club as well as job specific knowledge. LSS Group also provide future employability counselling for the individual, as at the end of the 6-month period, the golf club can either choose to keep the new starters on or release them from employment.
Kickstart funding by the Government is capped, but there are still opportunities for golf clubs to utilise this initiative for the forthcoming summer golf season.
