Wentworth Club Chief Executive, Stephen Gibson, summed up the recent BMW PGA Championship as follows: “It’s been an absolutely fantastic tournament at Wentworth from start to finish. We’ve seen tremendous crowds, fabulous weather and spectacular golf all through the week – there’s just been an incredible buzz about the Club that you don’t get anywhere else in the world.
“Our Director of Golf Courses & Grounds, Kenny Mackay, and his team have done an immense job on the greens and throughout the course, which has looked majestic; as have all our staff around the Club.
“We’re incredibly proud of what this event at Wentworth Club brings to our members, residents, the wider local community and its charities, all the while helping to inspire more young golfers to take up the game.”
The West Course Closure
Stephen Gibson continues, “As Keith Pelley said (in his press conference on the final day of the Championship), we’re all extremely excited about the future of the
tournament at Wentworth. The investment that Reignwood is making in the West Course over the next 12 months is hugely significant, allowing us to strengthen a whole variety of aspects of the course.
“The course will be the first in England to have the SubAir system introduced to all its greens; and the 007 Creeping Bent grass strain we’re planting will help us create some of the most distinguished greens in the world. We’ll also be completely redesigning the shape of some greens, remodeling various bunkers and making some wonderful changes to the landscape.
“All these improvements will be made by some of the world’s leading course designers in close collaboration with the European Tour and leading players.
“This time next year when the tournament returns to Wentworth for its 37th year, we will have one of the most outstanding courses in world golf. That is tremendously exciting.”
