Launched at The Scottish Open, The Green Book has now been used by 8 of the last 10 winners on The European Tour. Created by Clere Golf using specialist software developed in-house, the maps are accurate to 1mm.
Clere Golf has created The Green Book after two years hard work by the company’s in house development team. Using their own award-winning ‘ClereGreenCreator’ software, data is collected by the latest GPS and 3DLaser Scanning equipment; this enables measurement of putting surfaces to within 0.5mm accuracy.
The result is information about slopes on the greens that helps players predict the direction of roll for their putts, published in a book with more detail and accuracy than has ever been seen on the European Tour.
Each map divides a green into 1yd. x 1yd. squares and within each square The Green Book illustrates the direction of fall, the % of fall represented by a number (the larger the number the steeper the slope). The book also illustrates contour lines spaced at every 24mm/1 inch change in height.
Clere Golf Director Paul Homersham explains, “We utilise state-of-the-art 3D laser scanning technology to capture millions of GPS points across a green. A series of scans are taken and then meshed together and processed using our own software, which we have invested significant time developing.
“Our team have a huge depth of experience working at the elite level of golf across The European Tour, The Ladies European Tour, The Alps Tour and The Open Championship Final Qualifying Series.”
Prior to the official launch at The Open Championship, The Pro Green Book was introduced to the world of professional golf at the Scottish Open in July. Ricky Fowler used the Book to win the tournament; 6 of the top 10 players were also using the Green Book.
Since that time this success has been repeated almost every week, with Matthew Fitzpatrick using The Green Book to win the 2015 British Masters (as illustrated) and Andy Sullivan triumphant in last weekend’s Portugal Masters.
The Book was available for the Ladies British Open at Turnberry and The Evian Championship, where players using the Book finished 1st and 2nd. Clere Golf was also invited to produce a special edition for both teams competing at the Solheim Cup.
Fellow Director Steve Richardson says, “We are now exploring how the Green Book could be used by the amateur golfer in order to help all golfers become more accomplished on the green and understand better how to read them – after all this is where the game is won and lost.
“Though The Green Book is used at the Elite level of golf, we employ the same skills and experience to create course guides for the world’s leading venues such as The K-Club, Abu Dhabi, La Manga, The Belfry, Stoke Park and host of this month’s Turkish Open The Maxx Royal.”
