Stone Golf Club, a small 9 hole club in the Midlands with only 375 members, repeated their 1999 success when they beat Ashburnham to win the Great Britain & Ireland Rules of Golf Quiz, supported by the Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews and sponsored by Royal & SunAlliance.
In a nail biting semi-final, Stone Golf Club beat Irish winners Edmondstown Golf Club, and the first all ladies team to reach the Finals, Elie & Earlsferry Ladies Golf Club, the regional winners from Scotland.
In the other semi-final, Ashburnham Golf Club, taking part in the GB & I Final for the first time after 5 attempts at Regional level, beat newcomers from the South-East, West Byfleet Golf Club and Frodsham Golf Club, the North Regional winners.
Now in this its 7th year, the GB & I Rules of Golf Quiz, supported by the R&A and sponsored by Royal & SunAlliance, enjoyed its largest entry ever, with 506 teams taking part.
The Quiz, which aims to promote interest in the Rules of Golf and goodwill between clubs, has been previously won by Broadway (1995), Wilpshire (1996 & 1997), Braehead (1998), Stone (1999) and Banchory (2000).
To reach the Finals, where the winners received prizes from Royal & SunAlliance, Titleist and the R&A, the teams of four had progressed through county knockout stages and regional finals.
