Sowing seed at Soba in Sudan

12.08am 13th February 2009 - Course Development

Harradine Golf started the construction of the first grass golf course in Sudan in March 2008. Seeding is now in full progress and the lakes are being filled with water from the water wells.

Rocks have been installed at the creek and lake edges and two bridges have been clad with local stone. The irrigation is assured by temporary pump stations while the permanent pump complex is being built along with the maintenance building.

The Soba development includes a mix of units that will consist of multi family homes and condominiums. These residential areas have been located at each end of the course so residents will see an incredible artificial valley through framed visual corridors. Other facilities include a driving range, a swing analysis studio, putting greens and tennis courts.

Harradine Golf won all three golf course awards at the 2nd Middle East Golfer Awards held in Dubai at the beginning of February. The awards were:
1. The best designed hole in the Middle East – (Doha Golf Club, 15th hole)
2. The best golf course in the Middle East- (Abu Dhabi “National”)
3. The best new golf development project – (Sharjah Golf and Shooting Club)

Peter Harradine said, “The votes were not cast by biased spin journalists or interested ‘golf experts’ but by the passionate middle east golfers themselves!”
