Golf clubs asked to support vital EGU/EWGA research

12.14am 13th February 2008 - Management Topics

The English Golf Union (EGU) and English Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) have distributed their biennial Golf Club Membership Questionnaire.

This is the fifth time the research has been conducted since 2000 and the results are used to build up a picture of junior and adult membership within golf clubs in England.

The questionnaire enables the EGU and EWGA to assess membership structures and examine membership trends within affiliated golf clubs in England, establish the effect of development initiatives and identify where resources are best focused for the future. In addition the results help measure targets set as part of the England Golf Partnership activity.

Results from the last questionnaire completed in 2006 showed the percentage of junior membership across total golf club membership increased to nine per cent, demonstrating the positive impact of the junior development work that has been delivered by the EGU and the EWGA in recent years.

Following feedback from golf clubs since 2006 on how to improve and facilitate completion, the 2008 Questionnaire has a reduced number of questions making the document 30 per cent shorter. In addition clubs which complete the research online can view the responses they provided in 2006 enabling them to identify their own membership trends.

As an incentive for golf clubs to complete and return the questionnaire, all clubs who respond by 30th April 2008 will be entered into a draw to win a laptop, provided their return is made online, four lots of funding for junior or beginner coaching valued at £300 each and a fourball on the Hotchkin Course at The National Golf Centre, Woodhall Spa.

England Golf is a partnership between the English Golf Union, the English Women’s Golf Association and the PGA with the support of the Golf Foundation and Sport England.

‘The Whole Sport Plan for golf‘ is an initiative supported by Sport England that identifies how England Golf will achieve its vision of being ‘The Leading Golf Nation in the World by 2020‘ from grass roots right through to the elite level.
