The Belfry Hotel & Resort, host venue for this week’s Betfred British Masters, has announced that it has achieved Golf Environment Organisation certification.
GEO certification acknowledges golf resorts, tournaments and facilities for their outstanding sustainability efforts. The accreditation is internationally recognised and administered by the not-for-profit GEO Certification.
The GEO verifier commented: “The Belfry has taken tremendous steps on its sustainability journey, with a clear team ethos which incorporates the management of the golf courses, hospitality activities, facilities management, and waste management.
‘Data acquisition is central to informed management which can effectively use the information gathered to identify successes as well as opportunities to improve. I am very happy awarding the GEO Certification – well done on a tremendous team effort.”
Commenting on the accreditation Chris Eigelaar, Resort Director at The Belfry, said: “Achieving GEO certification means we have attained the most widely regarded and credible sustainability distinction in golf. This achievement speaks volumes about our commitment to sustainability and sets us apart as a leader in environmentally responsible hospitality. Congratulations and thank you to Angus Macleod, Jamie Wade and all our Greenkeeping team and everyone involved with this fantastic achievement!”
