The 2002 Seniors Tour will reach its climax on the shores of the Mediterranean this year when the second Tunisian Seniors Open returns to El Kantaoui Golf Club from 17-19 October.
Last year, New Zealand’s Simon Owen claimed his first title on the Seniors Tour when he defeated American Bob Lendzion at the second hole of a sudden-death play-off. In 2002, the Tunisian Seniors Open will be one of the closing events of a dramatic season with the top 51 Seniors Tour professionals contesting a prize fund of £100,000. The tournament will be preceded by a two-day Pro-am.
For the second successive season, the tournament has attracted sponsorship from The Tunisian National Tourist Office (TNTO), which has identified the event as a key part of its strategy to further enhance the country’s reputation as a leading golfing destination. The event has also received valuable financial support from the Port El Kantaoui resort.
Taieb Hachaichi, marketing director of the TNTO in Tunis, said, “Golf is an important part of our tourist industry and a valuable asset that we are proud to promote to golf consumers the world over.
“Last year’s inaugural Tunisian Seniors Open attracted a tremendous level of media coverage, both nationally and internationally, and this is reflected in the increased number of visitors to the Port El Kantaoui resort over the past 9 months. We expect this year’s event to be even more of a success.”
