Russian Golf Tourism attempting to capitalise on a World Cup Boost

10.35am 25th July 2018 - Travel

Russia might not be the first place Golfers have on their bucket list to go and play golf, however, the World Cup gave International visitors the opportunity to experience one of Russia’s spectacular courses Zavidovo PGA National Russia

The Zavidovo Radisson Resort is a 5-star hotel complex located close to the Volga River in the Zavidovo nature reserve, 45 minutes from Moscow on the new M11 Toll Road.

The hotel played host to fans of Iceland, England, Russia, Spain, Argentina, France, Mexico, Belgium, Brazil, Uruguay and Sweden during the recent FIFA World Cup.

Resort Development Director, Nick Solski CCM and Fellow of The PGA, told how a large number of the visitors were surprised at the quality of the PGA National Course, designed by Dave Sampson of European Golf Design and constructed under the supervision of St Andrew’s based Braemar Golf Management.

“They were genuinely shocked that we even had golf courses in Russia, let alone one that is of such high quality. Once visitors got past the vodka and bears stereotypes, they experienced the best World Cup ever according to the FIFA President, and a party atmosphere that took over the whole country”.

Nick believes that the positive experience of the football fans will open the doors for the countries first pioneering golf tourists.

“There are always golfers looking for new destinations, and we have put together multi day packages that make sure people are looked after from the moment they get off the plane to the moment they leave Russia. It’s important not to just provide an amazing golf course and a 5* clubhouse hotel, we offer a complete package that gives unlimited golf at PGA National Russia, Kremlin Tours, photo opportunities in Red Square, Russian menu tasting at the famous Café Pushkin and of course a trip to Moscow VIP party experience in a Moscow nightclub”.

Nick goes on to explain that all of this will be undertaken with private transfers, accompanied by English and Russian speaking guides and even helicopter transfers to other private members clubs if required.

PGA National Russia will be attending this year’s IGTM in Slovenia, and for any further enquiries, please contact nick@boomersandswingers.golf
