HLL Humberts Leisure, the chartered surveyors and specialist leisure business consultants, has announced the sale of the 62 bedroom Aldwark Manor Golf & Country Club near York to Marston Hotels.
Humberts was acting for the vendor Brad Holbrook, the successful software entrepreneur, who over the last three years of ownership of Aldwark has systematically and sympathetically restored the estate which is situated in the picturesque Ure valley twelve mile north west of the centre of York.
Aldwark Manor was a 28 bedroom 3 star AA country house golf hotel with comprehensive conference facilities and its own 18 hole par 71 golf course laid out in parkland divided by the River Ure. Within the course is the headquarters of BIGGA, the British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association.
A state of the art health spa was added recently and just completed is a major extension to the hotel bringing the total number of bedrooms up to 62, along with a range of additional public areas which will raise the hotel to 4 star status.
The sale of this property for around £8 million is one of the most significant single unit hotel deals outside London for a considerable time. Charles Scragg, the chairman and managing director of Marston Hotels, said that he was delighted to be adding Aldwark Manor to his existing portfolio. “The purchase of Aldwark,” he continued, “fits perfectly into our strategy of acquiring more high quality destination golf hotels.”
