The English Golf Union (EGU) is running two ‘Rules Schools’ in 2010 to provide opportunity for golfers to develop their existing knowledge of the Rules of Golf.
The two Rules School are aimed at club members and representatives who might already be involved in competitions at club or county level or those who simply want to further their Rules knowledge and gain EGU accreditation.
Toby Thorne, EGU Deputy Championship Manager said, “We have had a number of requests from golfers and club representatives asking how they can take the next steps towards becoming a qualified referee. In response we will be providing an opportunity for club staff and golfers to take advantage of a structured instruction programme delivered by our highly qualified EGU Tournament Panel Referees.
They have many years of experience officiating in national championships and at the highest level in amateur golf and are only too pleased to pass on their knowledge using the first-class training facilities here at the National Golf Centre at Woodhall Spa.
The dates for the 2010 EGU Rules School are 2nd-3rd March and 21st-22nd April. The two-day courses will include classroom tutorials as well as practical instruction on the short game area used regularly by the England teams for training purposes.
The price of £240 includes overnight accommodation, pre-dinner drinks and 3-course dinner at Woodhall Spa Golf Club and lunch and refreshments on both days. Those who wish to take the exam on the second day will receive an EGU exam certificate.
A successful exam result at the Rules School could lead towards being eligible for the EGU’s most advanced rules course, which prepares and educates referees for the English National Championships run by the EGU. Many of those passing these courses have gone on to become members of the EGU’s Tournament Panel and have adjudicated at events including The Open.
