On the eve of the European Tour’s Portugal Masters, Scottish television broadcaster, Dougie Donnelly, was guest of honour at Macdonald Monchique Resort & Spa to launch the luxury venue’s Algarve golf packages that will give hotel guests access to many of the region’s top courses.

Donnelly, who is currently lead commentator on European Tour Productions’ worldwide live TV coverage of The European Tour, entertained 50 VIP guests and local dignitaries during the fine-dining reception at the hotel, which is set in the beautiful Serra de Monchique mountains, just 15-minutes from the popular coastal town of Portimão in the Western Algarve.

Guests, including the Mayor of Monchique, Rui André, sampled the resort’s trademark fine dining from a four-course tasting menu which included locally sourced tuna, ‘corvina’ fish, slow roasted pork and a traditional ‘Abade de Priscos’ pudding.

To mark the launch, Macdonald Monchique Resort & Spa is also offering a ‘For every group of eight, one stays for free’ special offer for guests that place a booking before November 30th, 2016, and stay before April 30th, 2017*.

Rob Veltman, General Manager, Macdonald Monchique Resort & Spa, commented: “We believe we can offer golfing guests – couples, families and large groups – something very different and special in that they can stay at an idyllic, away-from-it-all, five-star resort and spa, but still be only a short journey away from a host of world-famous golf experiences.”

With 185 elegant suites featuring floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies or terraces, the resort is just an hour from Faro International Airport, and combines 5-star amenities, including a world-class spa, with premium service and contemporary styling.

Hotel facilities include four restaurants – an informal petiscos (Portuguese tapas) bar and a pizzeria through to a gourmet food market and a fine-dining restaurant specialising in local fish and wines; a Sensorial spa, where facilities include a Turkish bath, a Himalayan rock salt sauna and sensorial showers, and relaxation rooms; indoor and outdoor pools, a state-of-the-art fitness centre; and a kids’ club for children aged 4 to 12, along with a family swimming pool and a children’s playground.

The area of Monchique is known as the garden of The Algarve and is rich with unique flora and fauna and is surrounded by ancient cork forests. It’s also renowned for its thermal waters, which are said to have special healing powers.

*Subject to availability and for new bookings only. Price based on per person, sharing a twin room. Offer includes bed and breakfast and selected golf courses.
